Definition & Working Principle
Gate valves are bi-directional, linear-motion shutoff valves. The sealing element ('gate' or 'wedge') moves perpendicular to flow to provide tight isolation. Full port design ensures minimal flow resistance.
Working Principle:
- Disc/gate lifts out of the flow path when open
- Linear rising/descending movement via stem
- Full-open: straight bore, no cavity, minimal pressure drop
- Full-close: metal-to-metal or soft seat tight shutoff
