Professional linear-motion shutoff valves for industrial applications

Definition & Working Principle

Gate valves are bi-directional, linear-motion shutoff valves. The sealing element ('gate' or 'wedge') moves perpendicular to flow to provide tight isolation. Full port design ensures minimal flow resistance.

Working Principle:

  • Disc/gate lifts out of the flow path when open
  • Linear rising/descending movement via stem
  • Full-open: straight bore, no cavity, minimal pressure drop
  • Full-close: metal-to-metal or soft seat tight shutoff

Gate Valve Types & Classifications

Bolted Bonnet
OS&Y
Standard service applications with moderate pressure and temperature requirements.
Pressure Seal
OS&Y
High pressure and temperature applications where bolted bonnets are not suitable.
Forged Steel
OS&Y/NOS&Y
Compact size applications with high strength requirements, typically smaller bore sizes.
Parallel Slide
OS&Y
Steam service and applications requiring zero-leakage performance.
Slab/Through-Conduit
NOS&Y
Oil and gas pipeline applications requiring full bore flow and pigging capability.
Knife Gate
NOS&Y
Slurry, pulp, and mining applications with solid-laden media.
API 600/API 6D
Oil, gas, and chemical industry applications meeting API standards.

Classification Standards

Gate valves are classified according to design standards (API 600, API 6D, ASME B16.34), pressure ratings (Class 150-2500), and end connection types (RF, RTJ, BW). Selection depends on service conditions, media properties, and application requirements.
